No takers to run state golf courses
ATLANTA - The state Department of Natural Resources whiffed in its latest attempt to find private companies to operate seven of its golf courses, so it's asking for a mulligan.

Two of the 10 courses at state parks are currently operated privately at a small profit: Richard B. Russell State Park in Elbert County and Veterans State Park on Lake Blackshear in South Georgia. The city of Fargo, meanwhile, operates the course at Stephen C. Foster State Park, which existed before the park was built.
Now, the DNR is seeking private companies to operate the seven others.
In May, 18 companies expressed interest in running the courses, but only four submitted bids in July and the DNR rejected all four for various reasons.
"So we have no bidders," said DNR Commissioner Chris Clark.
The snag, Clark told the DNR board Tuesday, is that companies want five- to 10-year contracts to operate and maintain state-owned courses, but bonds sold to pay for building clubhouses at the courses lim
